With the growing demand for animation in automotive lighting, the LEDs must be controlled individually. Therefore, an LED driver with a digital interface is essential to efficiently drive pixel-controlled lighting applications. In exterior lighting, multiple light functions are often located on different PCB boards interconnected with off-board wires. Traditional single-ended interfaces have difficulty meeting stringent EMC requirements. By using the industry-standard CAN physical layer, the TPS929120-Q1's flexible UART-based wire interface enables easy off-board communication over long distances without compromising EMC performance.


The TPS929120-Q1 is a 12-channel 40-V high-side LED driver with 8-bit output current control and 12-bit PWM duty cycle. The device features open-LED, short-to-ground, and single-LED short-circuit diagnostics to meet a variety of regulation requirements. A configurable watchdog also automatically sets a fail-safe state when the MCU connection is lost. With programmable EEPROM, TPS929120-Q1 can be flexibly set for different application scenarios.
