The TPS92638-Q1 is an octal linear LED driver with PWM dimming control. Its design is ideal for driving multiple LED strings into the mid-power range.
The device can drive up to eight strings, with one to three LEDs per string, for up to 70mA total per channel. Multiple outputs can be paralleled to provide up to 560mA of drive current.
In multi-string applications, this device has the advantage of supporting common cathode connections for LED strings. Therefore, for systems with low-side current sensing, only one return wire is required, rather than one return wire per LED string.
The device has the ability to switch LED current between high and low current for stop and tail light applications. Both LED current levels can be programmed for each output through two reference resistors.
The device contains a temperature monitor that reduces the LED drive current when the integrated circuit (IC) junction temperature exceeds a temperature threshold. The temperature threshold is programmable with external resistors. Ground the TEMP pin to disable thermal current monitoring. The junction temperature can be selected in the factory program to output as an analog voltage.
