The TPS61169 is a boost converter with integrated switching field effect transistors (FETs) rated at 40V to drive strings of LEDs. The boost converter features a 40V, 1.8A metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) inside with a 1.2A lower current limit to drive a single LED or LED string for small or large panel backlighting. The default white LED current is set by the external sensor resistor RSET and the feedback voltage is regulated to 204mV as shown in . During operation, the LED current can be controlled by a pulse width modulation (PWM) signal applied to the CTRL pin, whose duty cycle determines the feedback reference voltage. The TPS61169 does not burst LED current and therefore does not generate audible noise on the output capacitors. For optimum protection, the device integrates an open-LED protection feature that disables the TPS61169 in an open-LED state to prevent the output voltage from exceeding the IC's absolute maximum voltage rating.
