The ADM2682E/ADM2687E are fully integrated 5 kV rm signal and power isolated data transceivers with ±15 kV ESD protection for high speed communication applications on multipoint transmission lines. The ADM2682E/ADM2687E integrate a 5 kV rms isolated DC/DC power supply, eliminating the need for an external DC/DC isolation module.

The device is designed for balanced transmission lines and complies with ANS/TIA/EIA-485-A-98 and ISO 8482:1987(E) standards.

The device integrates Analog Devices' iCoupler® technology, which integrates a 3-channel isolator, a three-state differential line driver, a differential input receiver, and Analog Devices' isoPower® DC/DC converter into a single package. They operate from a single 5V or 3.3V supply for a fully integrated signal and power isolated RS-485 solution.

The ADM2682E/ADM2687E drivers feature an active high enable feature. An active-low receiver enable feature is also included, which puts the receiver output into a high-impedance state when disabled.

The devices feature current limiting and thermal shutdown to protect against output short circuits and bus contention that could cause excessive power dissipation. Rated over the industrial temperature range, it is available in a 16-pin, wide-body SOIC highly integrated package with greater than 8 mm of creepage and clearance.

The ADM2682E/ADM2687E utilize isoPower technology, which uses high frequency switching elements to transmit power through a transformer. Special care should be taken when designing the printed circuit board (PCB) layout, and relevant emission standards must be complied with. For more information on board layout considerations, refer to the AN-0971 application note, "Recommendations for Emissions Control of isoPower Devices."
